When I am upset with someone, my attitude shows ME up as an enemy of God. When I try to justify my thoughts or words, I imagine God on my side fighting with me against the other person. But it’s the wrong image.
God is on my side, yes, but He is on my side to help me fight against SIN.
If I would just believe Him, and follow His lead, then I could win the battle. Instead of returning insult for insult, I would have the strength to be gracious and forgiving.
According to Nahum. “The Lord will by no means clear the guilty. Who can stand before his indignation?” (Nahum 1:3 and Nahum 1:6)
And listen to what Peter urges: “Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you.”
1 Peter 3:9
So if I want to win every time, I need to remember that God is on my side; and I must fight in His strength, not against those who may oppose me, but against the sin that threatens to dominate me.
“… Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will bless you for it.”
1 Peter 3:9
